March is already around the corner and I am looking forward to it. To be honest, February felt like the LONGEST MONTH EVER. I hate the way it’s spelled even! Blame it on the constant cold and dreary days or just the state of the world in general, but I am ready to finally shed the cold for some nicer spring-like days. With the coming of spring days, it gives me a chance to take stock of where I’m at when it comes to my goals and projects for Geeky Talk.

Create

Remember my plans for building an Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device? I’ve been slowly gathering materials to work on the prop and even bought a DIY prop book to read before my real work begins in March on this project. I am hoping to have an update on this project at the end of March. I probably could have started on it already, but to be honest the cold weather has made me lazier than usual. I’d much rather just sit in my chair with a blanket, coffee, and some good shows than move around trying to create something.

Speaking of creating something, my crochet hooks have been sitting idly so far in 2017. Once again, it’s just me being lazy because of the cold weather. Sigh! I need to take stock of my yarn collection and then decide on what projects I want to work on. I want to try to have at least one small geeky crochet project in March if not two. I’ve actually been thinking about something in the realm of Neko Atsume or Pokemon. What theme should I look for inspiration from for my next geeky crochet project? Let me know with your Geeky Talk in the comments below.

Read

For 2017 another goal I want to achieve for Geeky Talk is more reviews on comics and books. So far I reviewed Bounty #4 in January and will review Bounty #5 early March. So be sure to look for it. After doing reviews for each issue of Bounty, I decided to start reviewing my comic reads after getting through four or five single issues. It’s just a lot easier to do a review in one fell swoop. In one swoop, you can read my review of Girl Over Paris on Saturday. It’s a graphic novel and is currently available on Amazon for just a dollar.

While we are on the topic of good reads for me to review and talk about, I have plans to get back to the Fallen Empire series by Lindsay Buroker. Make sure you check out my review of the first book from that series, Star Nomad. You can expect a review of the second book in March. I promise! I’ve been itching to get back to reading some good sci-fi.

Speaking of good sci-fi, what do you think about The Expanse? I really enjoy the series and I definitely look forward to seeing it every Wednesday on Syfy. My only complaint is I have not been able to connect to many of the characters other than Miller. I don’t completely understand what motivates the characters either. That might just be part of the story’s mystery. I’m not sure. The intrigue and questions I have due to watching the show have forced my hand. I am forced to buy the books and read them. Oh, such a burden! So, look for The Expanse book reviews in the future.

What else do you think I should read for Geeky Talk? Are there comics or books you want to recommend? Tell me in the comments.

What else?

The really big project Geeky Talk has been working on is building a new computer. Last year we slowly bought parts and are now ready to put the whole thing together. We have a camera and mic ready to go. After the new PC is working full force, we will be another step closer to begin streams. I can’t wait to have lots of fun with Nordicmonkey with different games and lots of geeky fun. I might even try to play Europa with some coaching from Nordicmonkey. That should be hilariously fun. I usually tease him about playing a game that is essentially about menus and coloring most of the map a specific color. I know it’s a lot more complex than that, but that’s coming from a pleb like me. So, what’re you going to do? ha!

I am looking forward to March and after March too. February has just been too cold and to be honest I just haven’t felt so motivated because of it. We don’t have much snow this time of the year, but we do have rain. Lots and lots of rain. I just need a reminder that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That light is spring.

How about you? Is February a hard month for you too? Are you sick and tired of the cold like me? What do you do to stay motivated even though you just want to stay in your warm bed? Put your Geeky Talk in the comments and have a wonderfully geeky day!
